Wow! 137 unique visitors came to my website in the first day of my website being launched. Only a third of that number are people I personally invited to view it.
I had one visitor from France, one visitor from Bulgaria, and one visitor from Australia… simply: wow.

I finally launched my website Tuesday night. I spent about 2 weeks designing it and 2 days programming it. I have learned this semester that the design of a website should be done without a computer. And then the computer should be used as the tool to make the website happen.
My goal was to focus on simplicity… yes.. basically focus on the using as little ‘fluff” or extra stuff as possible. I’ve always been interested in how a design can be implemented with the least amount of design elements. In other words, only using something in my design if it is necessary to get the message across. I also wanted to push myself to use negative space and typography. Here are three designs I came up with. They will be presented to the Faculty on Monday for their approval.
Today I finished one design for the Ag website. I’ve been working for Dr. Apter doing the website for the past couple weeks. It’s a pretty cool deal, I have my own office in Magruder Hall to work in. I have a laptop and I’m surrounded by about a million bags of corn kernels of all different breeds (don’t ask) It’s an ag professor’s project… to breed corn… at one point I had little bags of corn kerns laid out on every flat surface except where the computer was and where I was sitting. The smell is also horrible.
Here’s a screenshot of the website so far. It’s aimed at prospective students. And oddly enough looks similar to recent Sargent Const. redesign…. Afterall there is a limit to how much creativity I have in one day.
This week at BSU, Gene is speaking about Missions, so at about midnight last night I created this for the PowerPoint during the service.
I started this website design in December but have been bombarded with other projects that this one had been pushed to the side… but today I got it finished, kind of.. I still have to create a secondary page design. The home page is supposed to display printed pieces that they have printed. There will also be a photo of the building they are located in, but the University Photography hasn’t gotten that to me yet.
I have created a website design for PixelIQ.com It’s going to be finished by tonight. This is a website/graphic design company that I will possibly be working for and this website design is part of showing them my skill level.
Normally, copper or zinc plates are used as a surface, and the incisions are created by etching, engraving, drypoint, aquatint or mezzotint. Collographs may also be printed as intaglio plates. To print an intaglio plate the surface is covered in thick ink and then rubbed with tarlatan cloth to remove most of the excess. The final smooth wipe is usually done by hand, sometimes with the aid of newspaper, leaving ink only in the incisions. A damp piece of paper is placed on top and the plate and paper are run through a printing press that, through pressure, transfers the ink from the recesses of the plate to the paper
Here is a piece I did from a photograph I took in New Orleans. It was a house that was basically flooded and got contaminated with oil.
So I finished the website for my Viscomm class in about 15 hours in two days. From Saturday night at 11 PM until Sunday night at 8:30 PM I worked on this website, minus a few hours of sleep and an hour for church. I posted the website at http://www.stephenemlund.com/jazz/
One of my next projects for Viscomm is to present research on a web designer or design groups… These are what I’m currently looking at to research:
I’m trying to find one that has similar design ideas that I do or has produced work that I hope to someday, or that I see myself wanting to create.
Spring Break:
